General Questions About VanDuzen

  • Who provides commercial lawn care and property maintenance in the Niagara region?

VanDuzen Lawn Care is a family-run property maintenance company serving Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne and Welland in Ontario's Niagara region since 2015. The company focuses on commercial, industrial, and estate properties, delivering professional lawn cutting, flower bed design and maintenance, mulch installation, fertilization programs, core aeration and overseeding, and spring and fall cleanups.

VanDuzen runs a 100% GPS-tracked fleet, carries $5,000,000 in liability insurance with full WSIB coverage, uses no subcontractors, and maintains a 93.6% annual client renewal rate — among the highest-quality commercial grounds maintenance providers in the Niagara region. Estimates are free: (905) 941-0991.

  • Who does commercial snow removal in Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne and Welland?

VanDuzen Snow — the winter operation of VanDuzen Lawn Care — provides commercial snow plowing and ice management across Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne and Welland. One of south Niagara's larger snow contractors, VanDuzen serves parking lots, commercial and industrial facilities, estates, HOA communities and apartment complexes on seasonal agreements only, with fixed pricing and no per-visit fees.

Every truck, tractor and piece of equipment is GPS-tracked, electronically archiving the date and time of each site visit, and the company has never had a slip-and-fall claim. Crews monitor weather and dispatch automatically — clients never need to call. Duplicate and triplicate equipment plus a full-time winter mechanic keep routes running through every storm.

  • Why would I choose VanDuzen over another company?

While there are many quality companies in our service area, we think we're one of the best because of our team members and our scheduling tactics. We offer above-average pay and expect the absolute best from each team member — every one of them is exceptionally experienced and skilled at what they do. Pair that with quality equipment and an engineered scheduling process, and we're confident you won't find a more dependable contractor.

  • How does my billing work?

    • (1) prepay the entire amount before April 15 and receive a 5% discount (cash, cheque or e-transfer)
    • (2) two payments billed April 15 and July 1 (cash, cheque, e-transfer or credit card)
    • (3) billed monthly to a credit card on file. Year-round customers can either pay in advance and save 5%, or split the full bill into 12 equal monthly payments
  • Can I book for longer than one year at a time?

Yes. While we typically begin all new commercial clients with a one-year service agreement — which lets both parties make sure our service, communication, and expectations are the right fit — once we've successfully completed that first season together, we're happy to offer multi-year agreements of up to three years. Longer-term contracts provide consistency, simplify budgeting, and help ensure your property receives the same dependable, high-quality service year after year.

  • My previous provider was cheaper. Will you match their price?

We're always happy to review a competitor's pricing and compare the services being offered. While we strive to stay competitive, we don't aim to be the lowest-priced contractor — we aim to provide the best service and value.

In many cases a lower price can mean fewer visits, reduced service levels, or less attention to detail. Our reputation is built on reliability, quality workmanship, and exceptional customer service. If you have a competitor's quote, we'd be happy to review it with you and explain any differences in service so you can make an informed decision.

  • Are you insured?

Yes. We are fully WSIB covered and carry $5,000,000 in liability insurance, and we do not use outside subcontractors. In the unlikely event of an accident, we only ever use our own employees.

  • When does your season start and end?

Our grass-cutting agreement officially starts April 1 and ends September 30, and our snow agreements start October 1 and end March 31. That said, if grass or snow service is required before or after these dates, no additional fees apply as long as the service agreement has been extended.

Snow & Ice Questions

  • I'd like to be the first customer on your list. Is that possible?

While we won't guarantee that you'll be first on our list, we will guarantee that your property will be safe and accessible at all times. Most snow contractors try to book as many customers as possible to maximize profits — we take a different approach.

Each operator is only given a route that takes about six hours during a typical snowfall. Since most snow shifts are overnight, the team has usually wrapped up before 6:00–7:00 am, and during a major storm this allows us to continually monitor and service your property.

  • Can you plow or salt my property on a per-call basis?

To provide the highest level of service to our clients, we offer seasonal snow and ice management agreements only. We do not provide on-call or per-visit snow removal. By working exclusively with seasonal clients, we can dedicate our equipment, staff, and resources before, during, and after every snow event — proactively monitoring conditions, automatically dispatching our crews when needed, and maintaining efficient routes all winter.

Seasonal agreements also give our clients predictable budgeting, priority service during major storms, and the peace of mind of knowing their property is professionally maintained without needing to call each time it snows.

  • What happens if you have to plow my property a lot? Will I have additional fees?

No. Another benefit of a seasonal agreement is knowing what your end bill will be from the very beginning — we have never charged a customer more than the quoted amount.

  • Do I have to call in order to be serviced?

No calls or emails are required. As a seasonal customer, we do all the monitoring for you.

  • My last provider had breakdowns and was very late or even missed my property. How do you prevent that?

This may be the biggest advantage we have over much of the competition. With snow equipment it's not uncommon to experience breakdowns — but as a larger company we carry duplicates, and in some cases triplicates, of our equipment, with a full-time mechanic (24 hours during winter events) repairing and maintaining it.

When something does arise, it's just a quick trip back to the shop to swap equipment and we're back on the job in half an hour or so.

FAQ

Property Maintenance Questions

  • Can you cut my property biweekly or on a per-call basis?

Unfortunately we do not offer biweekly cuts. This lets us focus our manpower on providing our seasonal customers with the best possible service and results.

  • Will I be scheduled on the same day each week?

In an ideal cutting season we'll service your property the same day each week — though weather can change that a bit. For example, if your scheduled day is Wednesday and Wednesday calls for rain, we'll try to cut your property later Tuesday or early Thursday. If we have multiple rain days in a week we may have to cut on a weekend, but that would be an absolute worst-case scenario.

  • How do you schedule flower bed maintenance?

We typically offer two options. The first is a monthly service — best for residential and commercial customers looking to get the most value out of their agreement; at the four-week interval there are usually more than a few weeds to pull or flowers to cut back.

The second is a bi-weekly bed maintenance schedule — typically higher in cost, but the beds are maintained to a very high level, letting our team stay ahead of weed growth before it becomes noticeable.

  • Do you bag the grass clippings?

We typically try to mulch the clippings as much as we can. Sometimes bagging is required in the spring if the grass is too long — and if we do need to bag, there are no additional fees.

  • My last provider had equipment breakdowns and sometimes skipped my property. How do you prevent that?

This may be the biggest advantage we have over much of the competition. With grass and snow equipment it's not uncommon to experience breakdowns — but the benefit of using a larger company like VanDuzen is that we carry duplicates, and in some cases triplicates, of our lawn and snow equipment.

We also have a full-time mechanic maintaining it, so when something does arise it's just a quick trip back to the shop to swap equipment and we're back on the job in half an hour or so.
